MDSM Lite has it roots in an old project written for Compaq Computer back in 2000. It's original purpose was to find a way to store webpage content inside a database and allow it to be viewed on demand from the web. That original project was written in Perl for Windows and a Microsoft SQL database.
In 2005, a PHP version was written under the name MDSM 1.0. In 2007 MDSM lite came into being on a website project that just needed basic webpage editing and was spun off the main MDSM branch.
In 2009, it was re-branded as MDSM Lite and is in use by several websites across the country.
